Some thoughts I've had lately

6.14.2011

Gees, nine months is a long time. Pregnancy sucks, and I don't want to wait for you anymore.

Sleeping before 4am is totally allowed, Self. And you might appreciate the thought after the baby comes. Why the hell are you spending your days tired while you still have the choice to sleep?

And wait, seriously? How are you keeping me awake? You're not even here yet.

Unwarranted pregnancy and parenting advice is bad enough without realizing that you're receiving it from women with no children of their own. Why, why do you people feel the need to do this?

Stop telling me what's going to happen and how I'm going to feel. It's not going to happen the exact same way for me.

Why is it that when you're pregnant, you suddenly feel the need to be friendly with other pregnant women (and women with infants)? I don't feel it in that 'I absolutely need to discuss parenting methods and our views on this and that and tell me your child's name even though we're never going to see each other again' kind of way, but I feel it in the way that you just have to make eye contact and smile like you have an unspoken bond. Is it just me?

At least there are no weird cravings. I just want a lot of fruit and fries and anything with cheese - but not together, they're just the things I want most often. I can't eat Mexican food or dairy (with the exception of cheese, for whatever reason). They have a plot against me.

I'm 5+ months and I don't feel all nice and pretty and pregnant, I just feel fat. I haven't gotten to wear adorable maternity clothes, I haven't gotten any stretchy jeans (although mine are getting a little bit tight - and not in a cute way...if that can ever even be cute). I just feel thick and bloated and gross.

Still, no matter how much I complain about being pregnant (mostly when I'm out and moving and there's a pain in the right side of my pelvis, which like always happens), I can't get over it. It's more amazing than anything. I love to feel my baby moving, and, even though it was one of my greatest fears when I was younger (I was really weird), I can't wait to birth this baby.

I can't wait!

  1. Great post! It's not you, as soon as you see that postive result you feel a member of the "club" and others are only too happy to take you in! Warning, the unwanted advice, especially from people with no children, will continue and it does not have to do with your aga and circumstance as much as people love to share there oppinons!!! I try to take what I like and leave the rest!!!! I remeber feeling fat at five months because you are not really "there" in the pregancy dept, and yet you are far from where you were before pregnacy. I found it helpful to get a few key pieces of clothing that were comfortable, at least then I wasn't suffering. Thanks again for a great post!

  2. And thank you for reading it! :)

The advice is driving me crazy, especially from a few select people who seem to have something new to say on a daily basis. Sigh.

As far as clothing goes, I've never been exactly sylish, and I've been tending toward my most baggy comfortable shirts lately. Even if I look a little frumpy, I think that's probably where I'll stay until I get to where I'm feeling all cute. Haha, and then I can actually wear the maternity shirts and feel special.

  3. So you're a first-time mom...how exciting! I was just in your shoes 3 years ago and so I know how you must be feeling. Do you know already your baby's gender? I pray that everything goes well!

By the way, I'm dropping by from Voiceboks. A very warm welcome to you!

  4. No, I find out the gender on the 30th (24 weeks to the day) and I'm going nuts having to wait.

    Thank you for stopping by!

  6. The #1 thing I hated when I was pregnant was everyone asking me, "how are you feeling?" I'm PREGNANT! I feel like crap! Oh and my favorite piece of useless advice. "Your going to have to cook them three meals a day." Really? They need to eat? Seriously understand what you mean.

  7. Just wait, when your belly grows bigger, total strangers will actually...wait for it...reach out and rub your belly, without your permission. What is up with that! Through four pregnancies I never got to the point where I could just accept that. Congrats anyway! It's going to be the greatest/hardest thing ever.

Following along to hear the end (beginning) of the story.

  8. @Jen: I know, right? Really, babies cry? And eat? Damn, I didn't sign up for that.

@Jessica: I will probably sock someone. Or cry, actually. Because I find it rude to tell them to stop touching me, which frustrates me because I can't say what I want, and being frustrated makes me cry. Stranger: "Oh, look how cute!" *touches* Me: *bawls* It'll be so confusing for everyone involved.

Thank you, everyone, for stopping by and taking the time to comment. :)

  9. My least favorite part was strangers touching the belly - ask me first! It does get better when you get to start wearing the cuter clothes and yes it makes you feel bonded to other women in a way you didn't before. Enjoy it all! I found you through VoiceBoks and am now a follower!

  10. Hi! I am following a blog hop and I know I am late. Nothing new there, unfortunately. I try to stay ahead of the game but fall off the wagon all the time! I am a new follower of your blog thru GFC and I also followed on Facebook. I love your sense of humor and you will need it and that is all I am saying because you are right, every experience is different, so will yours. The only common thread we all need though is humor. If you can laugh about it, then it's not so bad. Hope that helps in a good way. Thanks for listening and have a great week!
